May 8th, 2004 Mariner's Museum Newport News, VA The museum is lot larger than I thought. One building houses a boat construction project (small craft center see pamphlet above), another houses small craft from various nations and time periods, and outside is a conservation area of the Monitor where you can look in multiple tanks and see the actual ship pieces in varying states of conservation. The main building has a small room of paintings, another room of intricate ship models and still another with GIANT ship models and mast heads. Areas of mariner history throughout the world the the local shipbuilding yards and current culture. There were restrooms, water fountains and there was a place to get snacks; there was also a gift shop. A small area to order food is available and restrooms are in that area as well as water fountains. Admission: $8 adults ($7 for AAA members, Military and Seniors), $6 children ages six to seventeen; free for children ages five and under, $16 annual adult ticket and $12 annual child ticket, Members are FREE Left to right: Two photos of the outside of the building, Plaque and then photo of Alan Shepard's Coveralls, Plaque and Titanic Survivor's artifacts from that fateful day, Norse Boat and view of one of the Model/Masthead rooms.
Left to right: Sign of the Conservation area, Two photos and the Monitor's engine and parts, and finally, the Monitor's infamous gun turret and pamphlet. Photos copyrighted to www.dahoovsplace.com E-mail: dahoov2@cox.net
